of the most outstanding natural attractions
on the island is the Dolphin Experience, located at the UNEXSO
compound next to Port Lucaya Marketplace. Visitors can not
only see and learn about dolphins, but swim with them, pet them, and sign up as an
assistant trainer. Anyone who has ever dreamed of getting close to what is arguably the
most intelligent and complex animal next to man will want to make reservations (and do so

Blue holes, deserted
beaches, prehistoric caverns, wetlands,
McLeans Town, Sweetings Cay
and Lightbourne Cay are a few of the natural
treasures you'll see if you sign up for an all-day cultural safari with East End
Adventures. The guided tour involves a ride in an open 4x4 along sandy shores, a short
hike through pine and palm forests to some inland attractions, and a motorboat trip to a

Before 1955, the main transportation artery on Grand Bahama Island was the Old Freetown Road, a dirt path leading from Old Freetown in the East to Eight Mile Rock and other settlements in the West. The road was little more than a dirt path, and after the foundation of Freeport brought in a modern highway, the old road was abandoned and left to nature. Eventually, nature did such a good job of reclaiming it that a stretch of the road near Freetown has become one of the island's chief nature walks. Along the easy, five-mile trek are over 30 species of plants, 18 kinds of birds, 7 species of butterfly, and what remains of "The Hermitage," the oldest intact building on Grand Bahama, dating back to 1901. Hydroflora Gardens, located in Freeport, offers visitors a fascinating look into the science and technique of “hydroponics” – growing plants without soil. The tropical and sub-tropical flowers and plants produced on this five-acre compound are as beautiful as their growth process is interesting. Among the unusual exhibits are several of what is called "Bible" plants and a sunken garden. The Garden is open Monday to Friday 9a.m.-5:30p.m. and Saturday 9a.m.-4p.m. Guided tours and group rates are available. |

 Located at Deadman's
Reef, 15 miles from the International Bazaar in Freeport, Paradise Cove is tucked away
on the southwestern shore of the island. It offers direct access to Deadman's Reef, which
abounds with a myriad of marine life; and Duck Pond, which is known for its wild ducks and
wetland birds, such as egrets and blue herons. Paradise Cove Beach Resort provides a
snorkeling tour, complete with lunch, transportation and equipment, at $30.00. It is also
