Best Western British Colonial Beach Resort, The Bahamas

Charming Reminder of a Past Era

The newly refurbished Best Western British Colonial Beach Resort, built on the site of old Nassau, presides in grand Colonial style over eight tropical beachfront acres in the heart of glittering downtown Nassau. Long one of Nassau's most famous and most beautiful architectural landmarks, our antique allure conspires with our central locale to ensure an elegant, old-world experience replete with modern luxuries and excitement.

The famed pirate Blackbeard commandeered this site for his home at one point and a replica of the well he used for his water supply is still on our property. We pay further homage to the buccaneer in the old sailing prints hanging on the hotel's walls.

Our resort may still seem adrift in another time, but is only mere moments away from modernity. A few steps lead you to Nassau's renowned Bay Street, Straw Market, Parliament Square, and Government House, with its Changing of the Guard Ceremony, a reflection of the British culture. Easily accessible are two of the world's finest casinos, two championship golf courses , historical sites , and the array of Nassau's dining emporiums and starry nightlife. Only 25 minutes away is Nassau's International Airport and, 15 minutes away, Paradise Island Airport.

In keeping with our rich history, we have added more colour to our surroundings. Guests who found haven at our predecessor, Fort Nassau, were not as fortunate as our visitors today, who can now retreat in style to large, sparkling rooms done in harmonizing creams and bright hues. Picture windows let in yellow rays, and potted palms add verdant finishing touches. All of our 325 rooms are equipped with satellite television and a movie channel. Many of them have an ocean view.

We are the only hotel in downtown Nassau with a private beach, its white sand concealed by spacious, tropical gardens. It is hard to imagine now that in the courtyard of these beautifully landscaped grounds used to stand the lookout towers for the old fort. The gardens are perfect for early morning jogs, afternoon siestas, or moonlit walks.

A cool dip in the hotel's sheltered blue bay or beachfront freshwater pool provides welcome relief from the warm sun. Our on-site watersports center, Sun Divers Limited, offers other activities that make the most of the Bahamas' sparkling sea: scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, and deep sea fishing.

For those who prefer the option of keeping their feet on, or close to, firm ground we have complimentary tennis (three courts), basketball, volleyball, shuffleboard or video games in the game room. Weekly activities include a Bloody Mary Party on Sundays, Bahamian Poetry Readings on Tuesdays, and Human Crab Races on Thursdays. We also have a number of fine stores in our shopping arcade, featuring international and locally-made goods.

You can find epicurean adventures in the number of fine restaurants within the immediate vicinity, ranging from the ultra gourmet to fast food outlets. Our own Poolside Grille is perfect for lunch and a refreshing tropical drink under the palms. The new Caribe Cafe Restaurant, shaped like the stern of an old pirate ship, affords exquisite views of Nassau Harbor's fantastically blue waters from its large bay window, accenting a fine dining experience. Feasting at Blackbeard's Forge includes grilling your own steak and seafood to perfection at the unusual tabletop grills. After-dinner haunts, like the famous Never Say Never Again Bar, feature music for dancing into the wee hours, while the relaxed entertainment in the Palm Patio Bar Lounge will soothe even the tiredest feet.

Group & Meeting Facilities

We have a variety of facilities to cater groups from meetings and conventions to weddings and parties. The Queens Parlor ($400 per day) seats up to 250, theater style; the Nassau Room ($300 per day) seats 200. Meal and beverage options range from coffee breaks, sit-down or buffets lunches and dinners to cocktail parties. All offer a wide variety of local and international dishes, alcoholic and other beverages.
